A Message from our President to the East St. Louis Federation of Teachers

​To the officers and members of the East St. Louis Federation of Teachers, Local 1220:
 
On behalf of the members of Belleville Federation of Teachers, Local 434, I salute each and every one of you for your courage in fighting for your right to a fair and equitable contract.
 
Undertaking a strike is an action that is never taken lightly and the current economic climate makes that hard choice even more difficult.  However, you have demonstrated the solidarity of your union in standing up for what you know is right.  You are fighting for dignity, respect, and a voice in your workplace as you fight for a fair contract.  Those are laudable goals worth the sacrifices you have made and continue to make.
 
Your fight for democracy in the workplace is the right fight!  It is right for your members and for the children you teach.  Stay united until you receive a just settlement!  Belleville Federation of Teachers fully supports you in your efforts and urges you to stay strong until you achieve your goal.
